Klong Sra Bua is a small canal where, in historic period, the king in Ayutthaya reign travelled from the palace to Paniad Klong Chang, where the catching elephants took place. The canal was dug according to the presumption of the temples’ locations around there and its former spot.
Klong Sra Bua floating market is located at the Phra Nakorn Ayutthaya historical park.
Outside the city island in the north (Tuang Kwan), there is a large lotus pond with the stage in the middle of the pond for performing folklore stories. At the pond, there is long narrated roof made from bulrush. There are foods and drinks such as Tom Yum Thai rice noodle, fried flower such as needle flower, butterfly pea flower and Hemp Sesbania flower, fried beef wrapped in leaves, Islamic sun-dried beef, Ayutthaya style noodle and others.
The folklore performances will take place at the stage in the middle of the big pond. The characters will ride on the boats gracefully. The story and Sepa (Thai verse) are performed by professionals and are written just to be performed only in this place. There is also live Thai style orchestra band who perform one story each day such as Phra Lor (the story which the main character follows the cock and engages himself in many incidents), Phra Suton-Manorah (the love story between the prince and the half-bird half-woman), Krai Thong (the protagonist who fight with king crocodile) and Sangthong (the child who live in the conch seashell). The performance will be held 5 times a day: 11.00, 12.30, 14.00, 15.30 and 17.00.
Apart from the performances, tourists can experience the villager lifestyle at the other side of the market where there are lotus pond and rice field. Tourists can buy grass and feed the buffaloes.
